A Holder Identification Number (HIN) is a unique 11-character code (starting with an ‘X’) issued to you when you open an ASX account with Stake.
It identifies you – not the platform – as the registered owner of any ASX-listed shares you purchase through Stake. Being CHESS-sponsored means your HIN links your holdings directly to your name on the ASX registry.
It’s possible to hold multiple HINs across different platforms. A new HIN is created whenever you open a new ASX account on a CHESS-sponsored platform.
Each account type can only have one HIN associated with it. So if you have both an Individual account and a Company account on Stake, you’ll have a separate HIN for each.
Where can I find my HIN?
Locating your HIN within the Stake platform is straightforward. You can find it by using your Stake mobile app or via the web version on your computer.
On the Stake app:
Head to Manage, located on the menu bar.
Tap on Account.
You will find your HIN under the 'Account details' tab.
On the web version:
Click on Profile (it will be displayed as the first letter of your account name).
Click on 'Accounts'.
